pain after surgery...?
I'm having surgery on my hand soon, and i've been told that the pain in my hand after is going to be excruciating.
Right now it's about a 7 on a pain scale and general painkillers do very little to help with the pain...
I'm wondering will I be given stronger painkillers for it after the surgery?
I'm 15 and from the UK
I tore the UCL ligament, chipped the joint and dislocated the thumb

the pain may go down after the surgery. a seven is too high for most hand injurys so you may have a bone pressing on a nerve or something causing the pain which may disappear after the surgery. you will probably get strong painkillers after the surgery but painkillers really only just delay the pain

I think it really depends how high your pain tolerance is. I have high pain tolerance, and I got some work done on my toe (ingrown toe nail... it sucked) and they said it would hurt super bad afterward and the doc gave me pain killers but it never hurt at all afterward... weird cuz I kept expecting pain and waiting for it all day but it never came. So count on pain but I wouldn't worry about it. I have to get surgery on my mouth to remove my wisdom teeth soon. AGH D=

Usually after surgery, if the doctor believes the hand will hurt intensly, will prescribe hydrocodone (vicodin) or oxycodone (oxycontin) but demerol may also be prescribed.
