Bush or Petronius ? "The world wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived"?

Mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur, a Latin phrase, means "The world wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived."

The saying is ascribed to Petronius but I guess it could be Bush too...!!

Not just Bush, but his successor and their counterparts elsewhere. Wherever one looks, crazy things are being done in the name of anything which can be conveniently quoted as justifying them. Human Rights is a wonderful receptacle for all kinds of unreasonable demands and pretexts. However, since my human rights may well conflict with yours, it is a matter of which of us can achieve the greater semblance of political correctness. Meanwhile, the world at large continues to be persuaded that global warming is the greatest threat, that certain sexual deviations are to be upheld and promoted rather than deplored, that the breakdown of the family is an inexorable fact of life, that the unborn child has less right to live than its mother has to rid herself of it as an unwanted burden, that it is laudable to promote a state of affairs where the inhabitants of a particular country are forced to emigrate in search of work because the local jobs all seem to be given to immigrants, that our leaders are endeavouring to solve the economic crisis with our best interests at heart.....During your lifetime and mine our scale of values has been appallingly distorted and people seem to prefer to believe lies rather than the truth. Petronius had a good point. What would he say of our world?

I can't believe that the world WANTS to be deceived, they just trust too much. They trust our media, but it's been infiltrated by junk journalism. There are just too many "journalists" that don't ask the questions that need to be asked, and even if they do they don't question the answers. They trust our "elected representatives" It amazes me that the fools in America are so willing to give up their civil rights "to protect us from terrorists", not realizing that in doing so they have totally surrendered. I think that your premise is just used to justify their obscene, illegal, immoral and indecent behavior. In Bush's mind (such as there is one) he's on a "God-given" mission. He's delusional and suffers from "cognitive dissonance" - I figured out YEARS ago, that whatever comes out of his mouth, you better expect the opposite to happen.

It is sick logic that someone like an alcoholic would use. Drunk think at its very worst. Why we would let someone that has lied, conned and manipulated us for years walk away is beyond me.

It adds up to a preconceived plan to destroy the economic and social independence of the United States!" ~George W. Malone former US REPUBLICAN Senator If you're not OUTRAGED, you're not paying attention. If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy. ~James Madison "Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph."
