Why are we now confined to our own country when answering questions on Y/A?
Previously it was possible to move from country to country in answering questions. One obvious advantage of this is when answering questions on languages: you can offer help using your mother tongue to someone struggling with a translation. You can offer a different perspective to someone pondering an issue. Best of all, you could make friends with people all over the world. Now, for some reason, any attempt to answer questions outside the confines of one's country of residence is banned. Why is this so? There is no advantage in erecting this barrier and there are several disadvantages! Please return our freedom of movement!
6 AnswersYahoo Answers7 years agoDoes anyone know of a fast track method, within the UK, for obtaining a UK passport?
It used to be possible to make an appointment to queue up for one, on payment of an extra fee. This convenient route appears to have been closed.
1 AnswerPacking & Preparation8 years agoWhat causes change of colour in a cat's fur?
Our cat started off as a black and white kitten. She is now just over a year old and is rapidly becoming a brown and white cat. Does anyone have any insight into what might be the cause of this change of colour?
4 AnswersCats8 years agoWhy is the British Government so intolerant of the rights of Christians?
There is a general tolerance of the rights of followers of other faiths to wear outward symbols of their beliefs and it is not unknown for provisions to be introduced in our legislation to enable this. Yet there is no support by our Government for the right of a Christian to wear a simple, unobtrusive cross in the workplace, something which until recently was never called into question. Why this hostility to the human rights of Christians? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2125855/Be...

I have come across all manner of descriptions of the origin of the thing itself, but have been unable to discover why it is termed a pin. Why, for example, is it not a rolling stick or a rolling rod?

Was it the human race, was it the British, was it tourists to the USA in general, was it the elderly, or was it simply people rich enough to afford expensive cruises while the officials concerned stayed put in their home territory?
3 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoIs this what freedom of expression has come to mean nowadays?
Since the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most public schools any more because the word 'God' is mentioned.... a kid in Arizona wrote the following
NEW School prayer, for which an A+ was awarded:
"New Pledge of Allegiance"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene..
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all..
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks...
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong..
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles..
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWas this a simple mistake, or was it a deliberate attack on the Christian faith by unelected Eurocrats?
It seems hard to accept that all Christian festivals were omitted by accident. After all, they would have been shown on any template the diary compilers were working from. What, precisely, is going on?
6 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoHow do Christians feel about the pervasiveness of halal meat in UK supermarkets?
Have we reached the point where it is simply not possible to assume that any meat sold in our supermarkets (except Kosher meat and pork) has not been the subject of a dedication to Allah? Can anything be done to reverse the trend of accommodating the wishes of the Islamic minority in our country, blatantly ignoring the convictions of Christians? http://www.realchristianity.org/Why,%20as%20Christ...
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoShould the UK taxpayer be shouldering the burden of 'disability exiles'?
Taking advantage of our health system has never been an acceptable reason for being admitted to the UK as a foreign visitor. However, this article (under 'Wednesday') describes how people from other parts of the Commonwealth move to the UK specifically to avail themselves of our benefits scheme. Can we afford such generosity?http://www.telegraph.co.uk/expat/expatlife/8479791...
5 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoCan anyone help restore my laptop to full screen display, please?
I have a new laptop which clearly has a mind of its own when it comes to switching between full screen display and three quarter screen display (with black bands to either side and some of the information on the screen being out of sight). Or -- more likely -- its my clumsy fingers pressing something I shouldn't. It's a Toshiba Tecra and it is fitted with Windows 7. If anyone can rescue me in my pathetic plight, I shall be most grateful!
DVLA offers free advice to drivers. However, calls cost a staggering £1.53 per minute plus network extras. How can such an exorbitant cost be justified?
4 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoWhat do you think of the term "prime minstrel" for the incumbent of Number Ten?
The BBC made an error on its website earlier today, which has since been corrected. Referring to Tony Blair, it read: 'The former prime minstrel told the inquiry: "I believe if I started to articulate this, in a sense saying 'I cannot be sure', the effect of that on the Americans, the coalition and most importantly on Saddam would have been dramatic." '
There is a certain poignancy in the term, when one thinks of the Minstrel Boy going to the war and of Nero fiddling while Rome burned. Should the BBC have left it as it was?
4 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoTo bee or not to bee?
Bees are vital to the survival of our agriculture. Yet they are in very serious decline all over the world. Without immediate action to save bees we could end up with no fruit, no vegetables, no nuts, no oils and no cotton -- as well as no honey. Some studies claim the decline may be due to a combination of factors including disease, habitat loss and toxic chemicals. But leading independent research has produced strong evidence blaming neonicotinoid pesticides. This has led to beekeepers and scientists in France, Italy, Slovenia and even Germany, where the main manufacturer Bayer is based, already pushing successfully for bans of one of these bee killers. Meanwhile, Bayer continues to export its poison across the world. This petition calls for a halt to this lethal situation https://secure.avaaz.org/en/save_the_bees/?vl until and unless the chemical fertilizers used are shown to be safe. Are you prepared to add your voice to this cause?
13 AnswersConservation1 decade agoHelp! I've lost my shortcut toolbar?
I don't know how I managed it, but somehow I've managed to switch off my shortcut toolbar on Microsoft Word 3, so that I can't do things like change font, correct errors with that handy little button which goes back a space, etc. etc. Can anyone please tell me in simple terms that even I can understand how to remedy this? It's still there, but it's turned into a ghostlike shadow of its former self.
My deep gratitude will go with the ten points.
