programming a remote for 1996 chevy?

if it has a genuine GM key-less system you sit in the driver seat close all the doors lock them point the remote at the radio hold both lock and unlock until the door locks cycle aftermarket systems sometimes program the same way other require programing

if it works the same as my 98 chevy silverado, you go up near the car and hold both the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for 5-10 seconds and the doors will unlock and then its programmed to your car
