BMW engine making funny noises?

I have a 2002 BMW 325i sedan with the automatic transmission. For a few days now, every time I start the car the engine makes a howl noise, almost like a whine or a whistle. It's kinda hard to explain sorry. Sometimes I hear this funny ringing noise in side the car, almost sounds like its coming from the speakers. Any ideas? I'm going to take it to the shop next week just curious what I should expect

Where do you live? Is it extremely cold (below -15C) I live in Calgary and recently its been below -20C for the past few weeks, my BMW has been making noises due to the cold (but only when I start it). Otherwise if the weather conditions are fine then I would say a belt of yours is slipping, good idea to get it checked. Good Luck!

I would bet you that it's the deflection pulley between the alternator and the water pump. The belt runs underneath the pulley. Sometimes the pulley comes off and the belt starts smoking from rubbing. Be sure to check the other pulleys and the waterpump for noise and wear when the belt is removed. Good luck.

    Hi

It sounds like you've got a belt that's slipping, it's nothing serious unless the belt snaps, then it's a big problem.

Get it checked out as soon as you can,
