OOOOOHHH EXCELLENT Question.
Pornography.. Hands down. Roberts lyrics were morose (at best) deep bass lines and good steady drums.
That's the best album The Cure did, in my opinion.
The whole CD is just great. You can really see some of Joy Divisions influence on that one.
One could also say that Faith and Carnage Visors, but Pornography is much deeper, darker.
Hey Idiot kid.. Check out Faith and All Cats are Grey. Also.. check out "The Glove". It's a side project Robert did with S.Severin from The Banshees
EDIT: Oh, 17 seconds, Faith, Japanese Whispers, The Top, hell man- how can you not like any cure..
same way with Siouxsie... how can anyone NOT like Siouxsie?
yeah the guy at the bottom has a point with disintegration..
same with kiss me...

Seventeen Seconds is my favorite of the three Gothic Albums - Seventeen Seconds (1980), Faith (1981), and Pornography (1982).
I love the minimalism on Seventeen Seconds, Robert Smith's guitar playing, and the kraftwerk influence.
Faith has some of my favorite songs by The Cure such as - "Faith", and "All Cats Are Grey".
Pornography is really their first Goth album. This is the album where they go really dark, and they start incorporating some synthpop elements.
I would rank their "Gothic Phase" albums like this:
1) Seventeen Seconds
2) Pornography
3) Faith
The guy below me reminds me of something ... If you like the Gothic Albums, you should get Disintegration (1989) too. That album is AMAZING!!

I'd imagine Lullaby to be pretty "gothic", but that's on Disintegration, which came out in 1989.
So I guess my favorite from their real gothtic phase would be Boys Don't Cry.
EDIT: Never listened to Pornography, I'm going to go check it out!
EDIT: Holy crap, that was great. Long intro, but worth it. Man, I love his voice. So much. Holy crap!

I really like Faith, but I think Pornography was the best.
I'm kinda weird though, I don't thing that Disintegration was their best album like most people. I think Wish is their best.
