Do you or have you ever worked in RETAIL?
What annoys you about customers? Here's a few of my pet peeves. Please share yours. And do not mind me, I am really in a raggy mood after working my fifth holiday season in a metro area, retail chain.
People coming in two minutes before the store closes to browse for 30 minutes and not buy anything.
What do customers do that annoys you?
When you try to ask "how are you" and they cut you off mid sentence and say "im just looking." Ge-ez...As much as you think I am pouncing on you at the door, I am doing my job by being polite and I really do not care how your doing. I am a human being...you can look me in the eye and say, "Im fine, we are just browsing."
When a customer throws change all over the counter and expects me to pick it all up.
When a customer brings in 10 expired coupons that are "one per customer per day" and expects me to honor them all (And actually has the nerve to catch an attitude because I only let them use one...I am giving them a courtesy by letting them use one!). Wouldn't you be embarrassed to do that?
They ask you how much something costs and the tag is clearly marked in BIG BOLD LETTERS on every item in the store. Just Look and Try before you ask for help.

I did a few years back... I hate it!
I hate just about everything you said... It also annoys me when they see you organizing/folding and instead of asking for help, they go thru all the stuff that has already been neatly placed and mess it all up, when all they could have done was ask for the damn size!!! and YES!!!! I think the worst is when they walk in right before closing, they can hear the announcement that we are closing, yet choose to stay walking some more and truly walk out with nothing!
I wanna just tell them off.
You can tell I did not last long! lol

Yes; usually I allow customers to make some complaints without responding in a way that I might if I was not representing the company as an employee but when they want me to do something illegal or dishonest, I ask them to leave the store. I once called the police on a customer wanting to do something illegal.
As a customer, I am extremely annoyed when I ask where something is and the employee responds with something like "If we have it, it will be on aisle 6" or whatever. I don't want to go over there and spend time looking if they don't have it.

I work in retail and those are some really good ones you listed. I personally am sick of customers screaming at them for not guessing correctly what they are going to want in ten minutes. Some guy was yelling at me for like 15 minutes today because I should have known he was eventually going to want to split his order up into two orders. Why would I know that? He threw all his crap on the counter in one pile and had me ring it all and paid for it all and watched me bag it and then he said wait no I wanted to pay seperatly for that stuff.. Ugh!
More than that though, I hate hate hate the people who bring up an entire cart worth of stuff and have me ring it all up just so they can say Oh I only brought 2 dollars with me. Well why did you have me ring up 100 bucks worth of crap then? And now I have to call a manager to void it all and listen to him whine about the stupid void like its my fault that my customer can't add well enough to know if they only have 2 dollars they can't afford the 12 dollar items let alone 7 or 8 of them..
Or the customers that bring their entire cart full of stuff up to the register so they can stand there holding up the line deciding if they want each and every item and of course after like 20 minutes they finally decide to just take the one thing and now I have an entire cart of crap that they did take off the hanger for me to put away..

When there are four other employees standing around in a neighboring but different department talking to each other, laughing, but the customer sees you at work on something, and asks you to get from behind the counter and fnd something for them. Then gets an upset attitude that you have to turn to the four people who are talking to ask them where it is or if they have it at all.
People who forget that the ones working there have families to support, and they make up stuff to get you in trouble just for fun. That one's not happened to me so much as other people at other stores.

Years ago I did and it can be quite frustrating. I always go out of my way to be nice and a responsible shopper. This time of year sucks for you too because people are in a hurry and getting desperate. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and the madness is almost over.

Yes i work in retail, my pet hate is that my 3rd customer of the morning normally buys a paper for 90p & every day pays with a £20 note, even though i have a que of 7 or 8 people behind him & it takes time to count his change out to him & then he stands in front of me holding up the que while he Triple checks his change, one day he is going to get his £19.90 change in a mixed bag of 5ps, 10ps, & 20p pieces.

I still do, at SUBWAY.
I hate when they give their entire order, from bread to dressing and expect me to remember all of it.
Or 1 per day coupons, that had expired and expect to use them all at once (Best one was when a woman said, "your boss said I could use these, umm, whats his name". I said "Bill". And she said "that's him". I turned and said, "my boss' name is Jim. I'm sorry but I can't accept these", then give a very sarcastic smile)
Then the ones who either can't pay, after we've made their food, or refuse to pay because we weren't spot on perfect with them.

i didn't mind the customer part ,so much as i really really hated working in the women's dept. those freaking clothes used to shock the hell out of me, coming out of all that plastic, and then the freakin metal on the hangers. ya. thanks alot for putting a carpet in that dept. who's really bright idea was that? stupid... stupid...
i liked working the registers. it was fun to fk with ppl that were assy and to get see how many ppl you could get into a good mood. i especially liked the frustrated parents with screaming babies, part. it's amazing how many of them will shut up if you start 'bawling' along with them. you should try it,sometime.

People are people, dumb confused animals. But we all try. Be easy on us. I haven't worked retail for a long time, but I worked with people all my life, and I love it. For the most part, we mean well.
