How can I get square grids over a certain layout??

I have tried out many ways but didn't succeed. I have tried 2 put grids on it by applying the image as background in MS Word and then applying the table but the table wasn't fitting on it properly.

I also tried 2 make make it in Adobe Photoshop again failed!

Please help me...

And I want square grids not rectangular!

Update:

I have a layout of a sketch which I want to be graphed, so how can I get gris over it?

I want 16 columns in width and 20 rows in length.

I think the information I have provided will help you.

Thanks much for helping :)

    MS Word does not convert well to html. It's not intended for that, and the utility they use is just like an afterthought.

    The best way to do it is to make a table and assign the same height to the rows as width to the columns.

    <table background="backgroundimage">

    <tr height="40">

    <td width="40"></td><td width="40"></td>

    ...

    </tr>

    </table>

    will give you a table 1 row high and 2 cells wide.

    I can't tell if that will work with what you are trying to do, since you didn't say anything about the purpose of this exercise.
