Can you play playstation 2 games on PS3?

Of the models currently in production,the 80GB and the 160GB, neither are backwards compatible with PS2 Games.

Out of the models out of production, both original launch consoles, 20GB and 60GB, could play PS2 games because they actually contained the PS2 processor in addition to the PS3 Cell Processor. Of the models released in 2007, the 60GB and the 80GB were PS2 compatible through software emulation, but the 40GB was not PS2 compatible.

not in the uk unless you have the 60gb ,20gb or first 80gb (with 4 usb and card readers) if you have one of these you don`t need any software if you don`t have one of these you can`t do it

yea, with some special chip, i dnt think u get the chip if u buy it from an original sony store. but if theyr original ps2 cds, u can play them widout any chips

Yea if you have either a 60gB or an 80gB

you cant on the 40 GB PS3

but you can on all the other sizes
