I mean now most Americans know our economy is screwed but I'm sure a few years or even a few months back most of us did not see the signs

and you should know that it is also common information that the Bush/Cheney administration is the most disliked in the history of administrations. People that voted for him in 2004 are traditionally republications that approached the election selfishly, looking out for their own money, not to the benefit of the economy.
