Can water based poly cover over linseed oil?
l have 8" wide southern yellow pine floors new. l want the warm glow of oil rubbed pine but need to protect them from kids and pets I'm hoping to avoid the fumes of oil based poly in such a small house if not linseed than what oil can l use if any

I am not a sales rep for Bona Kemi Corp, but...
One option is to use one or two coats of Bona DriFast sanding sealer, wait overnight, then buff the floor using a 16" maroon pad, then apply 2 or 3 coats of a water base finish such as Bona Strong or Bona Traffic.
The sanding sealer is solvent based, imparts a nice ambering affect on oak and cherry hardwood flooring (but I haven't tried it on yellow pine), dries to the touch in less than 4 hrs and doesn't smell too bad or for too long.
One precaution is that after sweeping and vacuuming sawdust, do not allow any moisture on the unsealed flooring. Bona DriFast will turn much darker in areas that have moisture.

Linseed oil never completely dries, so nothing will ever cover it successfully.
Polyurethane is a water-based product, not oil-based.
