Pair of shoes hanging on the powerlines?

Or anywhere actually. Tie them together throw them over something like the top of a railroad bridge or powerline. Whats the meaning of this if there is one???

Whatever the modern version/reason for hanging up shoes tied together, it's origins are probably pagan. I have seen one tree here in a village in England with dozens of pairs of shoes tie up in it. The significance must have something to do with a pagan rite or ritual which is still practised in some quarters - certainly here in England which has a very ancient pagan tradition going right back to Stonehenge and beyond.

You may also remember the Arab who threw his shoes at Pres Bush - significant, since this is a major insult in Arab culture.

Sometimes someone will beat somebody up, steal there shoes, if there not the right size they tie em together and throw em on a powerline in front of the person who just got beat up. Now the person can't get his shoes down

It depends on the area. In my city, shoes on a powerline signifies that drugs can be bought and sold at that street corner. In Kansas City, it means that a gang banger has been assaulted or killed and it signifies a "win" over a rival gang.

It means somebody just doesn't want his shoes anymore, and hanging it from a power line would look cooler than simply throwing them out.

in some towns, especially in the south, shoes on the power lines mark the gang boundaries. if there are more than one pair in an area, than it is contested ground. it's different from town to town.
