Macs are based on a different operating system which is in turn based on UNIX a super secure os.Mac is less likely to crash and is much better for media like movie and music editing. The average mac lasts longer than a pc. I used a pc for a loong time and found the migration to mac really simple. Macs can be alot faster to used after you get used to them.

I can't give you a play by play or an entire summary of the unique abilities of an IMac compared to Windows, you'll have to get another answer for that. But I'll give you what I know.
The Macs are built on unix systems, which are much more robust, whereas Windows are on an MSdos system. The difference between the two the complexity. MSdos is very simple for moving pieces of info around whereas unix is much more complex and efficient and developed in a better environment. Look it up.
So obviously the operating backgrounds are far from each other.
Also, the IMac program designs are better and designers follow user interface as well as architecture guideliness to create the Macs, whereas PC guideliness are often not always followed.
Also, have you noticed Windows has a safe mode? A Mac doesn't need one because the Mac's system handles the memory better and therefore leads to no corruptions. Whereas, Windows is faulty and leads to crashes or corruptions in its system.
A Mac provides that you get what you pay for. Hardware, software, stuff like that and numerous programs come built in unlike a Windows where you must purchase many things to customize it or handle the simplest programs.
Windows has also been behind Mac for years; when Macs were advancing and operating on new efficient systems, Windows did not havcore-operatingng systems until late 80s. Like you said, no virus discussions, but Mac is much safer and much harder to infect and hack. I'd feel safer on it anyway. Which I just recently transferred to. Make what you will of it.

a laptop is a private laptop. A Mac is a private laptop. evaluate the value of a 2007 "laptop" with what you're thinking of figuring out to purchase an previous iMac and you will comprehend what a waste of money maximum desktops are. among the ridiculous sick-recommended nonsense above somebody pronounced "there is not any longer something a Mac can do this a laptop can no longer." that's virtually genuine yet once you desire to maintain each and every thing criminal than an iMac can run OS X which different manufacturers of desktops can not. The iMac can connect wirelessly to a MIDI device which another desktops can in case you upload and configure Apple's Bonjour application to the laptop. and so on. and so on. in case you have an activity in a actual laptop then the iMac has infinitely greater to grant than some universal "laptop" working a universal working device which incorporate abode windows. in case you may stay interior the barriers of the propriety abode windows worldwide and on no account could desire to project exterior into the worldwide of exact computing than a universal abode windows laptop will possibly suffice. while you're only involved interior the distractions infantile video games then a universal laptop will possibly suffice. while you're actual seduced by utilising sales people who convince you that the processor's clock cycle is a few diploma of "potential" then a universal laptop is possibly what you like.

Is this car better than that car?
This program better than that one?
The definition of "better" depends on the users perception of the term in regards to his/her needs or requirements.
Viruses do need to be considered. Like you I don't access illegal sites or content but regardless my anti virus has detected two in the last 12 months. One was in an e-mail from a friend. His anti virus missed it, mine didn't.
I use XP.
Mac.
A very stable O/S.
Preferred by professional graphics designers, recording studios and the like because of it's stability.
A much more limited choice of programs compared to PC.
A higher initial cost offset by it's reliability.
Lower vulnerability to viruses simply because less are in use.
Low incidence of program incompatibility.
PC.
Less stable.
More prone to computer faults.
Each new version released requires updates and patches to fix faults.
Has a much wider choice of compatible programs and software.
Is much more prone to intrusion by viruses.
Can have a lower initial cost offset by a higher ratio of fault fixing or cost if professional intervention is required.
The comparison is analogous to Beta vs VHS.
Beta is the better system but VHS cornered the market.
Although probably being replaced by digital units Beta is still in use by TV reporters, news services etc.
Like you I've been using PC for years.
I know it's strengths and weaknesses.
I'm used to it and use it intuitively.
I don't perceive, as some do, that Mac is a status symbol.
I'VE got a Mac, YOU haven't.
I don't think the Mac can do anything better than PC.
That depends on the user and the way the different systems operate.
