I know. let him sleep out side.... I am afraid for his life. Someone already broke into his car while he was sleeping in it. Now he has a broken window and leaves it run all night (co2) while he sleeps ...also it is freezing... I don't know what to do.... ;(
I did toss him out 2 years ago. He is still out...But I am worried about basic surrvival .he is making choices that could end his life... no drugs,,,,he hates drugs
ps I don't give him squat. except GET A JOB advice.

you cannot save him. he must learn. he will decide for himself if he likes to live like that. he will run out of money for gas to keep the car on (don't give him any!!). he will figure it out. you are doing the right thing. my son is 26 and he has gotten better. he had to learn the hard way that you can't live on nothing. helping him will not help him in the long run because he will not learn. let him keep going. DO NOT GIVE HIM MONEY because he then will not learn what he needs to learn that you cannot live like that. he has to make a choice. if he chooses to be a homeless guy for the rest of his life, you have to accept that as his choice. it's his life, let him live it. you showed him how you lived, he has to make his own life. you gave him everything you could. let him have his dream (not working). leave him alone and stop telling him what to do. i don't know how you even know all this happened unless you are paying for a phone for him. STOP PAYING for a cell phone for him, too!! I mean it. i did this with my son and it worked. it's necessary. let him live with the consequences he is choosing or he will NEVER learn.

He's a MAN that you treat as a boy. Because he's being treated as a boy, he acts like a boy when it's convenient for him, then as a man when it's convenient.
Do you really think you're doing the best thing for him??? If he needs to, HE'LL GET A JOB!!! Hell, I don't want to work either!!! But I need to to have a roof over my head!!!
Sit down with him and tell him he has 90 days to get his **** together and then he's leaving your house. That will give him enough time to get a job and save up some money for a place of his own. Tell him you are serious and he needs to really get his *** off the couch.
After 90 days, kick him out and change the locks. If he doesn't have a place, he can then sleep in his car (it will be warmer) or he can bunk at a friend's house. That way, you won't feel like you're kicking him out of your house. You told him, he had his chance, he didn't believe you, that's his loss.

Well, you sure have raised a spoiled brat that thinks he's entitled to free money and not have to work for it. You need to have a talk with him. He is probably a handsome young man and what he will find if he doesn't get a career and job, he will find no decent girl to date. Girls don't like losers for boyfriends and he will be facing that soon. He needs a career, college, or technical training. Then he needs to move to an apartment and begin to grow up. If you don't fix this now, he will still be doing the same at 30 and then 35 and 40. Sadly, you must have always given him whatever he wanted and now he thinks he doesn't have to work. Fix it.

Wow. Your son seems like my brother-in-law. Could he be depressed? Try finding him a job/setting up an interview for him. Perhaps he feels he's not qualified for a job he'll actually enjoy. A lot of men his age would rather not work in places like McDonald's or retail stores because they find it degrading. Ask his friends if they can get him a job where they work, maybe knowing that one of his colleagues will be a friend will inspire him. Try to find out what the reasons behind his behavior are and work from there.

Take him to the local rescue mission (or homeless shelter) so he can see how life with out work ends up!
-There are too many people that have lost jobs lately; for him to not want to get one. Sooner or later he'll figure out that he needs money to keep that car running.
Good Luck & Hang in there!

This did not JUST happen, it was happening all his life and you encouraged it or at least you did nothing to change it or straighten it out. This is the result of very poor parenting. You created a monster, now you can't stand it....You don't know what to do. You never did, did you? This is what happens when there is no parent. Get some counseling, and then maybe you can straighten out yours and his life.

He is 23. End of story. HE needs to get his life together. Suggest getting a job and then get out of there.

At 23, there's little you can do alone.
He's obviously got some problem that you alone can't
make him handle.
You're obviously paying for the car, gas, food etc.
It's your only leverage.
Try to force him into some kind of therapy program.
It might be his struggle with you that motivates him to
refuse to take care of himself, and if so, you can't win
this one by yourself.

ok look everythin has its limit! and by overprotecting him ur hurtin him, HES 23! he can survive on his own, i kno ur his father, and that fine if u worry abt him, but the role of a father isnt to babt his kid around, its to give him the tips he needs to live in the real world, and thats it you cant do everythin for him, ur not goin to be around all the time, he needs to become independent. im not tryin to be harsh on u, but its the reality, tell him to get a job and tell him that hes 23 and he needs to start acting like his age.
hope i helped
