I just started doing this, it's really easy! Just plug in your portable usb devicde (Ipod, Flash drive w/e) into the usb port on the front right.
Then while you are in any game, press the guide button (circle in the middle) and go the media tab to the right. Then select: Select Music then select portable device. It's pretty simple from there! You can do this any time while playing a game so you can select what songs you want, or set it on shuffle, or change the volume of the music itself.

If his 360 is connected to the router (and therefore, his PC) via either an ethernet cable or a wireless adapter, you can turn media sharing on in Windows Media Player and access all of the audio files on the PC (and videos/photos too). To do that, start up WMP and go to Tools - Options - Library and click the Configure Sharing.... button. You'll see the 360 listed, then you can enable sharing.
To select a song, press the guide button on the controller to bring up the mini-blades, then go to the Media tab and you can select music there.

Yes it is very easy. If you have a zune, just plug it in and during the game hit the button in to get to your Gamertag menu. Go down to select music and choose it. If you have songs saved on it, just select it from the hardrive.

Press the large xbox icon on the controller, you know the one with the green light. Then you mess around a little i think it says portable device or something. Its not that hard it also depends if you either have it stored to the memory or have a usb or something. Good Luck
