Hungarian cuisine and paprika?

My sister told me that the Hungarians put sweet and hot paprika on the table the same way we might have salt and pepper shakers. Is there any rules of thumb as to using one or the other with different dishes, or is it just a personal preference thing?

it is all personal preference. Kids and Ladies use sweet most of the time. I use hot. I have both on the table. We also use salt and pepper including a lot of Cayenne

  • We mostly cook with paprika, to add onto dishes at the table, i would recommend on scrambled egg, or bread and butter. Hot is an acquired taste, sweet can enjoy it. Actually does not have much taste, just like capsicum. People usually expect some much stronger taste.
