Polish grammar book recommendation?
I'm wanting to learn to read Polish, not speak it, but I don't have any experience in learning another spoken language so I don't really know how to go about all this. Fluency in a signed language doesn't help at times like this :) I seem to be a parts to whole learner. Hubby wants me to study Latin with him, but I don't feel I can do that until I have worked through an English grammar program, since I didn't learn any of that at school, so that's what I am doing now. Based on this information (which I'm not even sure is useful!) what book would you recommend?
1 AnswerLanguages1 decade agoTell me about Morriset, Bargo and Wyong?
Hubby has applied for a job in Sydney and since neither of us know the Sydney area at all, I'm frantically trawling the internet for info. These seem to be the only towns on train lines (hubby doesn't drive) where housing is actually affordable for single income families. Single incomes that aren't very high, specifically, since he's just graduated. We would want somewhere about an hour from Sydney on the train, where it is safe to raise kids. Small is fine for us. If it has a library and we can be walking distance to a greengrocer and park, we'll be happy.
2 AnswersSydney1 decade agoIndian cookbook recommendation?
I'm looking for a vegan cookbook that gives a good overview of the different regions of India, though I'm ok with a vegetarian book where I can easily substitute non-dairy for dairy ingredients. I'd rather something that isn't full of deep fried foods (ick!) I'm also open to the idea of buying a few cookbooks, perhaps one focusing on northern and another on southern cuisines. So, who can recommend something? I'm in desperate need of some new cookbooks ;)
4 AnswersEthnic Cuisine1 decade agoWhat's the bus service in Corio (Vic) like?
From what I can tell, there's buses from Corio to Geelong, but is there buses around Corio that stop at Corio station? I'm assuming so, since there must be people who commute from there to Melbourne, but I can't find info online.

Have you used it to grind beans? The info booklet doesn't say you can't, but it doesn't you can either...
1 AnswerOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoWhere can I buy a 4" mirror kit?
I've got the cutest pattern to embroider the back of a mirror, but can't find a kit anywhere. I'm in Australia, so an Australian source would be preferred, but I'll buy online if I have to.
2 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoHungarian cuisine and paprika?
My sister told me that the Hungarians put sweet and hot paprika on the table the same way we might have salt and pepper shakers. Is there any rules of thumb as to using one or the other with different dishes, or is it just a personal preference thing?

The "E" has an accent over it, but I don't know which one.
1 AnswerLanguages1 decade agoWhich finger gives the lowest blood sugar readings?
No good giving me examples of blood sugar readings unless you are in Australia. We have a different system to the US and I don't know how to convert. I read that in the US 74 is a low reading, where if we tested at 74 we'd be dead! Being gestational diabetic, I'm meant to be keeping mine under 6.5
8 AnswersDiabetes1 decade agoHow long after delivering your second child did you want to see your first?
I'm interested in everyone's experience, and am curious to see if it's just a hormonal thing or if family circumstance affects it. I'm a stay at home mum and virtually never leave my daughter with anyone. I wonder whether women in my situation want to see their first sooner or later than women who work outside the home. It probably makes no difference, but maybe there's some trends...
12 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoCommuter service?
There doesn't seem to be a commuter service from Goulburn to Canberra. I can't find any mention online, but hoped for an answer who actually lives in the area. Seems strange, it's only an hour between the two towns, yes?

4 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhat to do?
I have a 7 hour stopover in Amsterdam, arriving at about 2pm. Has anyone got any ideas on what I could do with a one year old in tow? I'm really hoping she's walking by then, but only time will tell!
3 AnswersNetherlands1 decade agoWhy can't an author illustrate their own book?
I've been reading the manuscript submission rules online and they all say that an author should not attempt to illustrate their own book. I've got my own, somewhat unique, idea for illustrations, so why not?
This is a moot point unless I even decide to submit my manuscript, let alone get it accepted!
7 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoCheap linen and wool.?
Linen and wool are hard to find. I know about Eliza's in Sunshine, and a shop in the Walker Arcade in Coburg. Does anyone know any other cheap fabric shops that sell linen and wool? These two I know about sell linen for less than $5/m. Better than Spotlight prices!
2 AnswersMelbourne1 decade agoHas anyone read 'Iron John' by Robert Bly?
What were your thoughts? Some I completely agree with, some I think are a croc, but most are going right over my head! I'm not sure if it's because I'm quite dim when it comes to metaphor or if I just don't get it because I'm female.
2 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoMaiden, Mother, Crone symbol?
I'm looking for inspiration for a ring. Menarche is generally not celebrated in our culture, and is usually something girls feel embarrassed about. I want to design a "womanhood" ring for myself and my daughter when she's of age, with a spot for a pink "maiden" stone, and space for a red, and a dark stone to be added when we enter the corresponding life stages. We aren't Wiccan, but this triple works for me. Can anyone suggest sources to check for inspiration?

9 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoWhat is the best volume on the history of Christmas carols?
Christmas carols kind of annoy me, but I think I'd like them more if I knew the history behind them. If anyone knows a comprehensive book on the subject, please tell me! Preferably a book with footnotes. I love footnotes.
