Any ideas for cloverbuds?
I just took over my barn's Cloverbud Club and I'm having trouble coming up with interesting topics to teach my kids. We have all ready covered: Grooming, tacking, parts of the horse, parts of the tack, showmanship, and feeding. I was thinking maybe colors and breeds?
Any ideas?

From time to time it probably wouldn't hurt to give a refresher course on some of the topics already discussed along with a test. Kids don't always retain everything the first go round. Make it fun like take pictures out of a coloring book and have them fill in what the parts are that you mark off or put a line next to.
You could also do a scavenger hunt with grooming tools or saddle and bridle parts and make teams and have them find the specific objects. We've also had grooming contests to see which team does the best grooming job while making sure they use the proper tools in the correct order.
Colors, breeds and knowing the various color breeds is also a great idea. Undo a bridle and see how long it takes them to put it back together. The different types of bits and how they work..direct pull vs leverage. Difference between snaffles and curbs and that snaffles don't always mean a broken mouthpiece.
Hope some of this helps !! Have fun with it!!

well i guess it depends on the knowledge level and ages of the kids, but at the camp i counsel for we do, vaccinations for older kids (we practice on oranges with clean needles obviously), what's in a horse first aid kit (so we just go over the common ailment treatments), and for younger ones we paint the digestive system with washable paints onto a light colored horse, and we also do different kinds of jumps. Your idea for colors and breeds is great! I just suggest whatever you do try to make it as fun and interactive as possible! good luck!

yeah, colors and breeds would be great, you could also do
1)differnt styles of riding(ex. barrel racing, show jumping, reining),
2)training
3)preparing for a show
4)despooking,
5)breeding and foaling
6)racehorses
7)donkeys + mules
8)movement
9)evolution
and probably much more, also you might want to look in a cloverbud handbook, there proably would be ideas in there

Have you thought about doing crafts? I'm in 4-H (a sheep club called the Country Tigers) and we do crafts all the time. Maybe you could look at Michal's Crafts for some ideas
