Your biggest problem is that you think you can change him to fit something you'd like better. If you don't like him, realize that you will not change him unless he wants to change himself, and move on to another guy you like better. If he's obnoxious, try telling him you don't care for that behavior and it makes you not want to be around him. Once you make that comment, if nothing changes, let him go. And as far as him smelling...that's enough for me to dump a guy right there. You buying him cologne--he probably thought of that as just a really nice gift; not as a hint that he stinks. Either get the balls to tell him or be done with him.

My advice would be to tell him exactly what you just wrote- be nice, but tell him that there are certain things that he does that bother you and if he wants to make this work, he needs to change them. He will either a) tell you to go to hell, and you should then just break up with him because you can't change anyone; or b) he will tell you that he's sorry for offending you and fix it. Communication and trust are the two basic things that successful relationships HAVE TO HAVE.

If you really like him, and wouldn't think about some space for awhile to think about things, then i would say you need to lay down the law.

Tell him flat out what you think of his behavior, and if he comes around you smelling bad again, take the dog outside, and tell him to sit and stay and think about what he has done.

You can't wait for him to change, if he doesn't want to, or he can't see how it annoys you, tell him what's up girl.

The first problem here is that his name is GEOFF instead of JEFF. This should of been a red flag for you.I would recommend gettin it on with his best friend.
