Does it seem like people are a bit material this year?

Seems alot of people have lost the true meaning of Christmas.

Update:

Traditionally, the exchanging of presents, the getting together with friends and family eating and drinking is Christmas, but a pagan holiday by another name. Christmas didn't become about Jesus Christ until Constantine, a Roman Emperor converted to Christianity and combined his old pagan traditions with his new religion. So, in my opinion, some people are materialistic yes. But at the same time, the gift giving is still part of the original tradition. So I don't think they lost the true meaning at all.

~~I thought this year showed a total change in attitude about Christmas. It seemed much less materialistic than it has in years. I figured due to the hard economic times, people started looking deeper into friendships and family rather than what they wanted or could buy.

Maybe it is just my area (I live in California) as it has been hit very hard by this recession. But every ones attitudes that I was around were completely different.~~
