If a principle of a charter school verbally abuses the kids even in front of other adults?

What can be done if this teacher is also the superintendant of that school?

A very similar situation came up at a charter school I am familiar with. The students who had disciplinary issues were called to a whole school assembly and disciplined in front of the entire student body. They had to stand before the student body as they were disciplined and publicly called out. The parents made a huge fuss, not because their kids were disciplined, but because of the public manner in which it was done. It made the news along with the financial troubles brought on by the former administration. Eventually the administration was replaced.

You have to remember that the word charter in front of school makes it no better or worse than any other school. It can be even harder to get recourse in a charter school, because they operate outside an overseeing board. You should make your concerns publicly known. Charter schools are approved by their local school district and the state boards of education, so ask to speak in front of the school board. They should be aware of the situation before they re-approve the charter. Contact your local newspaper and the state board of education if necessary.

Read this link. It is biased toward the problems of charter schools and most schools don't have these problems, but maybe you can get some ideas for handling this situation.

Finally, you may want to prepare to change your child's school. He/She isn't going to be well treated by someone who is under a lot of fire.
