Can you help with my pupsickle.?

I have an 11 week old weimaraner puppy. He has very short fur with very little fur on his belly and paws. We live in Wisconsin it's 25* and gets colder here. Should I get him a coat or will he adapt? When he goes outside to go to the bathroom he is already shivering before he is done. With this type of dog he NEEDS to be excersized daily. I want to take him for walks what's the best plan for this? Buy him a coat? Shorter walks? Wait til he is older? Please help.

He'll be fine. It will encourage him to hurry up and pee and poop if he is slightly cool. He'll run and play and warm up naturally. You could put a coat on him, but it'll only last you a few weeks before he has outgrown it. Shorter walks, or brisk walks.. Do thinks that will keep him warm.

I live in western Canada where winters are brutal, too. I can tell you that my greyhounds - also very short coats, no undercoat and no body fat, wouldn't be able to go out at all for walks in the winter if they didn't wear coats and boots because their feet freeze, too. I think clothes for dogs are ridiculous, except when they're to keep the dog warm so they can get their much-needed exercise!

  • I will buy him a sweater and/or a coat. Also, I will probably buy some booties so his feet wont be cold. I know everybody might think it is wrong, but its for his safety. fetchdog.com has dog booties and i went to target and got my dog a doggie coat for 1.75 $

Seeing that it is a shortcoated breed, l would consider getting him a coat, if I were you.

buy a coat. and let him walk before you run...LITERALLY!!! if you start running w/ out him getting used to the weather he will go into shock. I would get him one like this....so he can run and stay warm!!
