2005 Chev Silverado "Service Air Bag" warning in message center. Ideas?
I have a 2005 Chev Silverado "Service Air Bag" warning in message center. It also alternates with the message "service four wheel drive". I own a body shop and have an OTC computer. It does not, however, have the latest updates to 2005. So any techs that can help. It is an easy 10 points. I have had a couple of collisions of other peoples that were 2005 or newer with the same problem. I sent them of to the dealer and only heard the results of 1. The dealer said it was the seat switch on the drivers side. The switch that indicates someone is in the seat. Ideas?
Also,my 2,4h,and 4low buttons do not light up. As though none are selected. As well, the 4wd will not engage. Possibly two separate problems, but I think it is something common to the warning lights. But what?

As for #1 I have had no common problems, but an accidentally disconnected sensor wire is a possibility. Unfortunately I would need a code # to give a better direction of what to look for.
For #2 that is a very common problem, but could be two things. First and most probable is a bad 4wd switch, the one with the buttons on it. It should be around $100 and you can put it in yourself. The other is the 4wd module, less common but have done a few of them. This could run you around $250 and again can be installed by you.
Last option is a water leak causing corrossion at connectors for both the airbag and 4wd module. This was more common on the Blazer but is a possible cause. Look on the passenger side floor for the most likely spot, maybe pull off the kick panel and look around.
Final thought is have autozone pull the codes and post them for more detailed help.

When my air bag light was on, the dealer told me that the switch under the passenger seat had been disconnected (by something that was pushed up under the seat).
I'm definitely not a mechanic, but I hope that this answer helps a little...
