No, you do not have to obtain nursing certification before obtaining your Associate Degree. In fact, it will be better and easier if you complete an A.A. or A.S. degree first, then obtain whatever nursing certification you desire. You may find after awhile in college that you want to continue, and obtain a B.S.N. (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) or M.S.N. (Master of Science in Nursing), which could lead you to a much more lucrative career.
