How do I Connect a Laser Jet 4050 hard-wire printer to a wireless network?

I have a wireless NETGEAR router that connects my sister's desktop, and my dad's desktop together through Ethernet cables. The same router also connects my laptop to the same network vie Wi-Fi, so I connect to their network through a wireless connection.

I wanted to use a Laser Jet 4050 printer for my laptop, but the printer has no wireless capabilities. I have no matching hard-wire links to connect the printer directly to my laptop, nor does the printer have an Ethernet port to connect directly to the router.

So my question is, how do I use my dad's desktop, (the computer that hosts the Laser Jet 4050 Printer), through the wireless network to print from my laptop?

*All computers are connected together through the same router and network*

This printer does not have a USB port as Tommy stated above. It does have a serial & parallel interface and optional port slots. There are two ways to share the printer over your network.

One is to share it from your dad's computer to everyone else (go to START, choose Settings then click Printers and Faxes. Right click on the printer and select Sharing and set it up). This does require the host computer to be ON whenever anyone wishes to print though.

The other, and the one that I recommend and think would work best overall, is to purchase an HP JetDirect card (a 615n or 620n would be the best choice, though a 600n or 610n will also work. Search the internet for some good deals) and install it in your printer (configure it with a Host Name or fixed IP address) which you can then attach directly to your router with a network cable and everyone can share the printer at any time without having to have a computer on in order to print.

    Best of luck.

You can attach it to any of the PCs and use simple File and Printer Sharing. That's a USB printer, if I recall correctly?

Or get a wireless print server. Prob. cost you anywhere from $39 to $79 or so. And they don't require you to leave the PC on that it's attached to.
