Why do boys like yuri so much and why do girls like yaoi so much?

It was just something I noticed; boys seem to go for the mangas where girls are.....with girls(yuri) and girls seem to go for mangas where guys are with guys(myself included).

Im straight and I like both not so intense type of yaoi and yuri.

Not at all. In fact, the majority of people who like yaoi and yuri are straight, with men liking yuri and women liking yaoi. Yaoi is aimed at women, and Yuri is aimed at men. Why? There is no distraction of the fan's own gender, they can focus on the two girls or boys involved without having to feel "threatened" by the prescence of a signifigant other. In laymen's terms, if Miroku and Inuyasha are a couple, the female yaoi fan has no worries of her favorite bishounen being "taken" by another girl. They can sit back and enjoy the two studly bishies together. The same thing applies to yuri, except with the male fan focusing on the girls without the distraction of a male character.

Another explanation is that the couple presented is new and exciting, and it is interesting to see how the author gets the couple together. With so much repetition of works involving canon couples, an alternate pairing is a breath of fresh air. This is why straight men can enjoy yaoi, and why straight women can enjoy yuri. All it takes is an open mind and the desire for something different.

The last reason I'd like to bring up is, despite how chaste an innocent some yaoi/yuri fans claim to be (and most don't even pretend), the fact remains that the thought of two boys or two girls together is considered by some to be the most erotic and beautiful thing on the planet. Just the concept of two or more young, handsome anime guys or two youthful attractive girls in a romantic relationship can range from "cute" and "innocent" to downright lick-your-lips yummy. The general perversion of most otaku is an unavoidable subject. ;)

Still, there are gay and bisexual anime & manga fans who like yaoi/yuri as well, the obvious reason being that they can better relate to the relationships presented.

I actually haven't met a single guy that likes yuri :S I've met straight guys and gay g uys that like yaoi, but never yuri. I like yuri (as well as yaoi), but I'm straight.

I'm not sure why other people like it personally. I think it may just be a turn on factor for some. I like it because...I don't see what's wrong with it. Two guys and two girls together are as normal as a girl and a guy together, so why limit myself to het manga/anime when I can see so many other anime/manga that are good?

Some go for it because guys on top of girls get boring. GIrls with girls and guys with guys can switch it up.

I am a heterosexual female, who likes yaoi. I find that most girls in shojo manga (especially) are ditsy and utterly annoying. If I don't like the characters, then the pairing dies for me. Maybe it's because I am harsher on my own sex, but I usually like the male characters more than the female characters. So putting them together lets me enjoy the romance part of it without being sidetracted by the ditsy female.

As for the yuri, I never liked it much, but when I asked my cousin why he liked it so much, he smiled and said "Because there's four boobs" :p

Its just really interesting to the viewer. Its better than straight shojo romances. I, myself, am a fan of both yaoi and yuri. What I like is the intense scenes between two guys and two girls. I love the plot, and there's always unpredictable twists.

    I'm more into yaoi, lol.

that is because we fangirls are sometimes a little bit jealous when they have 2 very hot guys in one manga/anime together and there's some anoying other girl character in that manga/anime. So, the easiest way to settle it is to slash both the boys together and now they're a pair, no other girls can get it !! PLUS, what makes a better world than two smokin hot guys going together ??

probably for the boys, two hot girls going together also rocks their world... I don't know...just guessing. But my first answer there is just based on what I saw in Merlin tv series in which most fan loves arthur and merlin together because both of them are just soooo handsome& cute that no other girl in the series could be the fair match for them :D

I dislike both, it's not paranoia but for the same reason antibodies reject viruses in the human body.

I oppose what is going to help humanity, it's not cute when lgbt flaunts it and it's not appealing when japan tries to polish it and make it seem cute.

Trust me, i tried to throw away my moral compass and be a liberal zombie and runs with the crowd (Like everyone else) but i couldn't do it. Just can't

  • I like shonen ai which is like yaoi but without the hardcore sex.I think it's really cute when a guy finds love or is in a forbiden relationship.

    It's a page turner.

  • Probably because it's a forbidden relationship that they can never experience.

A girl can be with another girl or a guy, but they can never, obviously, be a boy in a relationship with another boy.

Same goes for guys with yuri.

Maybe that's not exactly why, but that's always what I've thought.
