Without knowing what you intend to use the PC for, the answer would be only my opinion.

mac's are great for someone that has some knowledge of computers, i would just go to a computer shop and have one built with what software you need or want,mac has a problem with alot of microsoft software and is not friendly for using games etc. windows xp is also my best choice

apple computers are great bc they are so good abt virus's but if you want something more fun to play on ive heard the hp touchsmart is a really great computer.
