Israel is defending itself against Hamas -- again, because?
Hamas broke its ceasefire with Israel and also Hamas is testing president-elect Obama's will, diplomatic and leadership abilities.
Will Obama be able to rise to this challenge in defense of our ally, against our enemy Hamas, or will he act like he wrote in his book and side with the Muslim (extremists) agenda? How do you think Obama's position will hurt or help America? PS, Happy New Year to all
Thanks for your responses. It appears most of you think Obama will stay the Bush course as far as middle east policy/Hamas/Israel are concerned.
Richard, I don't believe your assertions are true, but I guess it's a matter of what came first, the chicken or the egg
But I guess we probably all agree that a nation has a right to defend itself against terrorist organizations.
It's a toss up between cheb and herald, at this point.
Warrior, the nation of Israel was created from territory that was NOT the nation of Palestine. No land was taken from a country called Palestine. PS, the nation of Israel had to be created there in accordance to Bible prophecy (laugh if you will) but denial of the prophecies of the Bible will not make them disappear. The truth is as it is whether we choose to believe it or not
We need to see these signs for what they are and not for what we think they should be. The times we are living in are of biblical proportion

It seems like someone would recognize a pattern here; Constantly attack Israel with everything that a group has to hit them with, until Israel hits back, at which time it becomes an international crisis, and a cease fire is called for, the lull used to re-arm in order to launch yet another series of attacks. Hamas is testing Israel, as many others have done - and paid the price for. Obama can do nothing to prevent Hamas from launching missiles, nor can he stop Israel from hitting them back when it loses its patience. Once Obama is brought up to date on the truth, he will have no choice but support Israel, even if it disappoints his pacifist supporters.

You'll find it was Hamas who originally proposed the six month ceasefire. If it hadn't been for Hamas the ceasefire wouldn't have existed.
You'll also find that Hamas did not break the ceasefire - because it was only for six months and had expired.
You'll also find that Israel broke the ceasefire in the fourth month when on 5 November when the world watched US election results Israel sent troops across border into Gaza and shot six people - breaching the terms of the ceasefire.
You will also find the ceaseire was offered to Israel in exchange for lifting the embargo which prevented food getting in Gaza. Israel didn't lift the embargo - so the ceasefire was for nothing.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't George Bush put out the call for a democratic free election for the Palestinian people. Who did he think would win, the Brady Kids? Hamas won in Jan of '06. GW, in his Worldwide Democratic Revolution march does not understand that democracy is not always baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and chevrolet. GW's "roadmap to peace" is working out just dandy!

I don't think Obama will rise to the occassion, only take the bench and say what everyone wants to hear in order to stay the popular one like people on here who just say "Go Obama". They don't really say why just a brief statement so later after the smoke clears they can make up the rest of the story to be the more popular one - it seems.

Happy New Year Wayne.
I think that although Obama has made some very provocative statements in his book and on the campaign trail, he will continue running the course so as not shake things up any further in the MIdeast. He has already voiced a plan to enter Pakistan and re-enforce troops in Afganistan. But Iraq is still unstable and Iran waits in the wings.
I think Obama will repeat Bush: "Israel has the right to defend herself".

After all said and done , all we can say if Israel has the right to exist so dose the native people of Palestine. Go Obama.

I don't think Obama has anything to do with it. Historically, American presidents have pressured Israel to show restraint. Bush won't do that, but previous presidents would have.

In 1948, the British and the French helped the Israelis return to Palestinian soil... So Much for the English Common Law, " possession is nine tenths of the law."
