Miami nightlife...questions?

I am currently in Orlando and have never been to Miami...I honestly know nothing about it but want to go down there for a few days with friends to go to the nightclubs etc.

First off, is all the clubs you hear about in Miami or Miami beach? There's a picture I always see in magazines of convertibless driving down a street with bright colorful buildings on one side and the water on the other...I'm going to assume that is MIami Beach...am I right?

Basically for 2 days what clubs do you recommend (we are all 21+) and what do you recommend to do during the day besides the beach (seen enough want to do something native to Miami)

Any info would be great...and if you have suggestions on nice hotels too that would be appreciated as well...thanks!!

There are clubs in both the Miami and Miami Beach areas. You are correct about the magazine pics with convertibles and colorful buildings. That would be Miami Beach, which is infamous for its art deco style.

If you are looking to stay in Miami Beach, check out the Beacon, the Clevelander, and the Colony hotels, which are all located beach front on Ocean Drive. I am not sure what the prices are nowadays, but they are right in the middle of the Ocean Drive action and a walking/short cab distance to other bars/clubs. There are also several hotels on Collins and Washington Aves, which run parallel to Ocean Drive, but are 1 - 2 blocks inland.

It's been a couple years since I've partied in Miami Beach, so I couldn't tell you exactly what the hottest clubs are, but these are some places I enjoyed during my visits there:

Opium Gardens - Open air lounge/dance club

    Crow Bar

Nikki Beach - Dancing, drinking, beds on the beach for hanging out

Purdy Lounge - A bit further away, but a chilled out lounge with pool tables, dancing, etc

Pearl - Champagne bar with dancing, not sure but it may have closed

The Clevelander Bar - Outdoor bar at the hotel, usually bands playing

Wet Willies - On Ocean Drive, tons of frozen concoctions that will get you looped

Mangos - Nutty bar with crazy dressed women, salsa music sometimes, on Ocean Drive too

    Have fun!
