I can't seem to sleep?

For the past two days I haven't been able to sleep. Last night I turned off the tv at 1:30AM and was still up by the time I had to go to work. I should be exhausted but I am not. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do to get some sleep? If I take Tylenol PM I have a hangover effect the next morning but I am willing to take it to get some sleep.

Sometimes our body won't let us sleep simply because it doesn't need it. But that is not always the situation. Sometimes we get insomnia. It could be stress. You may be thinking too much.

Try white noise. Like soft music preferably with out words so your not focused on the words or trying to sing with it.

For some people warm milk does the trick. You could also try chamomile tea, or a sleepy time tea. It is recommended that you not watch tv or do any mind consuming activities for at least 15 min before going to bed. Most of us don't do that. However, a recent study suggested that you give yourself a minute or two of complete silence from tv, reading or any "thinking" activity to process that then try going to sleep.

Look into doing some relaxation poses, example lay on the floor with your legs up the wall, or lay flat on the floor with a blanket. While doing so focus only on your breath. You can do either of these or both for up to 15 min each before going to bed.

If your a thinker, while in bed find ways to relax your mind and not think.

Well when I stay up late it often takes more time for me to go to bed. Make sure you get to sleep early, with the intent of sleeping in mind. A routine also helps; if you crash one night at 10:00PM, 1:30AM the second, and 9:00PM the third night, you're not getting in a routine that's conducive to sleeping.

The strange thing is you say you should be exhausted but you're not. Obviously stop drinking caffeine or other stimulants if you are. But if you're not then this could be a sign of a disease.
