US Army Special Forces 18X program?
Hi guys,
Im an Aussie whos been around the block once or twice. Ive heard a few guys ask questions on here about the 18X program - a direct entry route to your Army Special Forces.
My question.. so the guys I knew in the sandpit were all SNCOs - whats the go with the guys straight off civie street? If they get into a Bn, do they find themselves with a couple of hooks on their arm straight up?
This is more for the BTDTs.
I understand that. My question is - if they are successful in their attempt, whats the procedure in terms of their rank?

Basicly, if they pass all the courses.
And out of the first 798 who tried, only 14 even got to start the Special Forces qualifying course.
They are promoted to Sgt E-5.
But by then, they would have close to two years time in service.

Your college degree will help like gasoline in a fire. I went to basic with a bunch of guys who thought they were going to be 18 series. They were promised the "chance" to be special forces but that didn't mean everyone made it. If you enlist as an 18x, you still have to go through SF selection. If you aren't chosen at selection or you get hurt and can't finish, you will be an infantryman, 11b. Make sure you are in shape if this it what you really want to do. If you do get selected, your medical back round will help during the SF medic training. It's very intense from what I hear so maybe you will be one up on the competition.

18X isn't actually an MOS (military occupation specialty). Instead, it's an enlistment option. Under the 18X enlistment option, recruits are guaranteed the opportunity to "try out" for Special Forces. It does not guarantee that the recruit will be accepted into the Special Forces program. Please visit the GoArmy Special Forces site for detailed information on special forces training.

After the Special Forces Qualification Course, ROBIN SAGE, and SEER, you will be 18B/C/D/E Special Forces Sergeant. If you wash out at any stage, you will be 11b (infantryman).
