What is more important math or science?
Well my friend Melissa and I are having a debate on what is more important personally I think it's math because science uses math but math doesn't use science, the only reason we are doing this is because well she's in honars science and i'm in honors math. So what IS more important math or science??
BTW- we bet so if more peeps say science then I HAVE TO buy her a aeropostale shirt and same way around for her.
This is hard I don't know who to pick for best answer, my friend Mellissa still dis agrees with me though but I think I am going to wait a while, for a good answer.

They are inseparable.
Without math, science is just observation and conjecture. Without science, math is a tool without a use.

I have read all answers. There is nothing more I wish to say but I would say I in a different way. Personally one can have more liking for either mathematics or science. But from the society's point of view both are equally important. One can say science needs mathematics and mathematics does not need science. But one can always say that modern science and its explanation includes mathematics. But discussion of mathematics does not involve science directly. Historically new scientific concepts generated new mathematical concepts and what at first was developed only as mathematical tool finds its application in science

I say Math for the same reason that you stated above. Science needs Math but Math doesn't need Science. Obviously we will be no where without Science. But we would not understand Science without Math!
Math is not entirely useless without Science. Economics, Accounting and Business Studies also need Maths. Please understand that I do not dislike Science. I find it very interesting and I enjoy it. But if I did not know Maths then I would not understand Science.
Hope this helps :-D

Your question is like saying which is more important - water or food? In the end you need both to survive.
Math is an essential part of science but math does not bring benefits to mankind that science does and would be useless past counting money if not for science. Both are important and linked to one another. Neither one is 'more' important.

You are correct. Science could not exist without math. One supports the other. Math didn't produce many of the things we enjoy today without the science to make the mathematical theories valid! ;-)=

Math - for the reason that you stated. (Math is used in science...)
At least in regards to school AND the type of science.... Physics is much more math oriented than Chemistry or Biology. If you simplify the MATH requirement as basic math (Add Subtract etc..) then you definitely need math in Chemistry to balance equations and compute molar concentrations

i too agree that they are equally important and inseperable...
without science math would have no validity and vice versa
although you are kind of shooting yourself in the foot with this question because you said science needs math, but math does not need science. this implies (for the purpose of your arguement only) that your friend is in advanced science she needs to know both advanced science and math. whereas you only need to know advanced math and no science at all. with that being said it would seem as if her class is harder because she needs to know both math and science (not saying that it is though...)
i would just be careful as to how you explain it if you want to win the bet ;)

Science. The world's facts, makeup, history, and many other characteristics are made of SCIENCE. We could survive without math and science, but science benefits us the most.

Science.
Mathematics is interesting, but useless without science.
Many branches of science can exist without mathematics.
