  • Why does the new YA page layout suck so badly?

YA has done it again with a new layout that is completely unfamiliar and difficult to use. The category list is only a partial display of the categories. If you favorite category is not displayed on the main page then multiple clicks and page loads are required to drill down.

And yet again sprung upon us with out warning and without an option to stay in a classic display mode.

  • What is your opinion of a Windows phone?

Looking for recommendations on a phone so what do like or hate about your phone and service provider. Salesman at Verizon showed me a Windows smart phone but all I really want and use is a camera.

I am considering getting a new phone with a decent camera (5 mega pixels or more). I would prefer a feature phone vs a smart phone provided it has a decent camera.

I want to easily transfer photos via USB without the need to use other software like ITunes etc. Simply have the phone be recognized as a flash drive and just as easily by dragging and dropping files to/from a windows PC.

Installing programs on a PC to transfer pictures and or file is not an option as not all PC's that I use grant installation rights to my accounts. So that rules out an Iphone as I can't install Itunes.

  • Heat build up on an LCD touch screen surface.?

Consider how light reflects off a Black or White object. A black object absorbs the light where its converted to long wave IR (Heat).

Is this effect the same for a color LCD screen whihc uses LED backlights? Assume that 1/2 of the screen is displaying white and the other 1/2 is displaying Black. If an incadescent lamp is placed in close proximity to the LCD surface say 6 to 8 inches. Do you think there would be a slight difference in temperature either at the screen surface or a layer just below the surface of the screen?

Think of it another way as vectored light, one vector incomming (to the screen) the other out going (from the screen). Would photons traveling in opposite directions collide and cancel each other out?

  • Have you seen this petition against Piers Morgan?

    Here is the link.

    https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/deport-b...

As for free speech, does a foreign national have the right to influence US public opinion without full disclosure? Does such rhetoric violate terms which a visa was granted? Mr Morgan is still free to express his views from a London studio. If Mr Morgan wants to live in a gun free society why doesn't he reside in England?

Before you answer please view this video of the pierce morgan exchange with Larry Pratt. This is the video at the center of this debate.

  • How did fishpaper get its name?

Fishpaper is a vulcanized paper used for electrical insulation. Commonly used to indulate the bottom of a printed circuit board.

I was wondering how it got its name, was it named after its inventor? Don't think this stuff would have been practicle to wrap fish in due to its expense and thickness. It was manufactured specifically as insulation. So idiots need not respond with wrapping fish etc as an answer.

If possible please provide a source or reference.

  • Why is Sesame Street still producing new shows?

Sesame Street has been on the air since 1969 and has produced almost 4400 shows. That is enought shows to broadcast for over six months worth of non stop 24/7 childrens programming. (Enough shows for each letter and number to have 122 shows each!)

So what is wrong with Re-runs? Does PBS use Sesame Street production as a leader for their monthly pledge drives to drum up more donations? Scare you that suddenly there won't be any new Sesame Street shows.

  • Why Can't I Find A Job In America?

I started the day early having set my alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am. While the coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, I shaved with my electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). I then put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking breakfast in my new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) I sat down with a calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to budget how much I could spend today. After setting my watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) I got in my car ( MADE IN GERMANY) and continued the search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, I decided to relax for a while. so I put on some sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on the TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why it's so difficult to find a good paying job in.....AMERICA.....

  • Write MSDOS com program using dotnet (console)?

I have a job where old MSDOS 6.2 x86 machines are being used to communicate with external hardware via RS232. Long story short their MIS department is +20 years behind the current state of the art. Basically they look at these old MSDOS machines as free PC's no one else wants which function well enough for task at hand. (basically as simple user interface / display devices for their black boxes)

How can i write a simple console program using Vb2010 that will run in a WIN16 MSDOS 6.2 OS environment?

I know that I could use QBASIC but it has been decades since i used it and i would rather use current development environments i have on my own pc rather than use dinosaur PC's at work.

I hope to be able to drag these guys into the 21st century and get them off of sneaker net and show them the advantages of networked PC's for data logging. Etc... These guys even make a number of employees share a single networked PC And share a single email account between them all!

  • What is a good car for a short commute?

I am changing jobs and find myself needing to drive 9 miles to work. A bicycle is now out of the question due to very dangerous highways being the only available route from my house. Public transportation is no longer an option as there is no bus route nearby. Previous job was 13 miles and i could ride a bike on secondary roads or take a bus.. Ironic that new job is closer but less convenient to get to

    Vehicles I am considering are..

    Honda Fit

    Nissan Juke

    Kia Soul

Would like to know what you drive and your likes and dislikes about your ride.

Political correctness has now influenced Answer ratings. No matter how inaccurate or offensive a post may be the worst you can rate it given the choices is amusing.

So are you amused by such political correctness?

Shall amusing now be considered the new thumbs down for half hearted attempts at an answer?

  • Why are you learning VB6? (and not the new DotNet versions.)?

I have noticed a lot of VB6 questions recently which indicate many are starting to learn how to program with Visual BASIC.

Question I have is what is motivating people to use a 1998 version of VB that is no longer supported by Microsoft. Are there teachers in schools who are still teaching VB6 and if so why?

  • Carrier Infinity Thermostat - install question (HVAC heat pump integrate with existing GAS heat)?

I am currently having a central AC with heat pump being installed in my home. I plan on using the heat pump as an efficient means of heating during late spring and early fall and use the existing natural gas hydronic heating system during winter. The SEARS salesman has stated that the new HVAC and existing heat systems can be operated by one thermostat. (an Infinity SYSTXCCUID01-B) This is a digital thermostat which uses a 4-wire communication bus to control the Carrier Compressor and Air Handler units.

How does this thermostat control the existing furnace. Does it contain a relay to operate the Gas heat via the original thermostat wire OR do I need to have another control component added to the old furnace (a realy board) which would be operated using the 4-wire communication bus?

I would like to have some facts before I start questioning my contractor and electrician.

  • Bullet trajectory question for military sniper?

The spin imparted to a bullet by the rifling is used to create a gyroscopic effect which stabilizes the bullet so that it maintains an aerodynamic attitude as it moves to the target. In other words the bullet flies true and doesn't tumble.

So my question is does the spin on the bullet cause it to curve (like a curve ball ) ever so slightly to one side in its trajectory towards the target. I would imagine such an effect if present would be consistent and easily zeroed out much like the effects of gravity are compensated for by elevation adjustment. I understand there are other factors to consider such as wind speed and direction. But I am interested in the gryoscopic effect the rifling has on the round and the effects of that spin on the "flight' of the bullet as it makes its way down range.

To compensate for the effect of gravity the elevation adjustment of a sight is used resulting in a slight upward angle on the barrel which causes the bullet to travel in an upward arc in the vertical plane such that the bullet is at the proper height when it reaches the target.

So does bullet spin result in a slight drift to the left or right in the horizontal plane? If such an effect is even present does it effect other factors such as a wind adjustment equally from either direction the wind may be blowing from?

  • Unintended consequences - Are companies dumping full time jobs because of Obamacare?

When I read between the lines of this article I cannot help think that this is a corporate effort to bypass Obamacare. Get rid of full time employees with health insurance and hire part timers and not provide health insurance.

    http://www.tauntongazette.com/news/x517528855/Lowe...

Mc Donalds was one of the first to opt out of Obamacare.

    http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/usnews/hea...

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5872292/c...

In the case of Lowes why would you layoff one full time position and replace it with four part time positions as a cost savings measure if it were not for costs of Obamacare.

In light of the above examples (+200 companies), do you think Obamacare is or isn't a job killing bill and why do think so.
