Why is Sesame Street still producing new shows?
Sesame Street has been on the air since 1969 and has produced almost 4400 shows. That is enought shows to broadcast for over six months worth of non stop 24/7 childrens programming. (Enough shows for each letter and number to have 122 shows each!)
So what is wrong with Re-runs? Does PBS use Sesame Street production as a leader for their monthly pledge drives to drum up more donations? Scare you that suddenly there won't be any new Sesame Street shows.
Unlike an entertainment show where reruns would become stale quickly, an educational show would not have the same limitation. How current with the "times" does the show or for that matter an 8 year old have to be in order to watch Sesame Street?..
Further enough shows have been produced to feature each letter and number with 122 shows.

You’re making a ridiculous argument.
Over the past 50 years so much media material has been produced
that we can keep watching re-runs of everything and we would never
need to produce anything again except for news coverage.
Would you be happy with that?
We don’t need new action movies.
We don’t need more sitcoms.
We don’t need more comedies.
We don’t need more video games.
You just sound like a selfish jack\ss who feels that children’s needs
are not important.
Let me guess, this is your poor attempt to give Romney credibility.

You may think that 8-year-olds have no sense of trend.
You are incorrect; they are like us.
Remember, you must capture their attention with something
interesting and entertaining in order for them to stay focused on it.
Just as ‘Leave It To Beaver’ would not be interesting to you
because it seems like something that doesn’t belong in this
timeframe so are old episodes of Sesame Street to an 8-year-old.
You under-estimate the child’s brain.
BTW, I think Sesame St appeals to younger kids than 8-year-olds.
Don’t think I’m some sap who has some extreme passion for kids
by being a parent. I don’t have kids and I don’t plan to have any.
But this doesn’t mean that I should view them as non-intellectual
little roaches.

they do it to keep up with the times. what was good in 69 just isn't whats going to work in 99 or 09. curiously, it is never metioned as the longest running show on t.v.
Source(s): watched it when it first came out. - Anonymous7 years ago
