What is a good car for a short commute?

I am changing jobs and find myself needing to drive 9 miles to work. A bicycle is now out of the question due to very dangerous highways being the only available route from my house. Public transportation is no longer an option as there is no bus route nearby. Previous job was 13 miles and i could ride a bike on secondary roads or take a bus.. Ironic that new job is closer but less convenient to get to

Vehicles I am considering are..

Honda Fit

Nissan Juke

Kia Soul

Would like to know what you drive and your likes and dislikes about your ride.

Update:

Beery

The dangerous highways to which i refer to is rt 44 between middleboro and taunton,ma. It is posted to prohibit pedestrians, horses and cyclists. Even google maps warns that the route contains streets not suited for bicycling.

Get a Honda Fit. My dad recently went through finding the best small car for him and choose the Fit. He didn't like the blind spots in the Kia. The juke looks too odd.

No such thing as a 'dangerous' highway for cycling. Cycling is the safest mode of personal transportation there is. I cycle my daughter to school every schoolday on a 6-lane highway. Some people think cycling on any moderately busy road is the equivalent of skydiving, but it's not.

Which highways are we talking about here? Details, or you're just scared of cycling in traffic.

the fit or the volt would both be good choices for short miles commuting.
