Access Point Router to Locked Router.?

Try this again... I have internet access through a locked WRT54GS router. The router cannot be accessed for configuration, and wifi is allowed VIA the WPA Key... which I don't have. If I plug my laptop into the back, I have internet but i'd rather leave the cable behind.

If I take another WRT54G Router that I have, configure it for access point mode (Disable DHCP, change SSID, change operating mode to router right?) Could I plug my router in access point mode into the back of the locked router and have wifi access or would I need to identify my router through the locked router before it would work correctly. And no... I cannot reset the locked router, I know how... but I can't.

Update:

I'm not allowed to touch the old router, nor am I allowed to have wifi access through it. Don't know why, but it won't happen. I'm allowed to plug my laptop into the back of it though... Go figure?

Update 2:

Yes it did work! As long as you plug into the WAN ports on both routers... not the internet port on the second router... An FYI for anyone that might be looking for this answer. Change the second router's IP as well, and the SSID. Dynamic or Static routing will be dependent on what your hooking into though... Like I said, this is just an FYI for anyone with the same issue.

yes that should work as long as you disable DHCP on the new one that is just dishing out wireless. If you have no particular need for the old router, you can always just replace the old one altogether... There is no need for double the hardware and double the electricity being utilized...

You can't make the second router an access point unless you have access to the locked one's settings. To unlock the router plugin the laptop and type 192.168.1.1. Then enter admin as the password and username. From there you can changed settings. You could also plug router 2 into the loved one with an Ethernet cable. Or you could just use the working one in place of he locked one. Also, if you have physicial access to the router you can reset it.
