Is my older dog a bad influence to my puppy?

I got a puppy a few months ago, Kiko and I'm afraid he may be learning some bad habits from my older dog, D.W. D.W. always eats off the kitchen floor, steers clear of sewage drains on walks, leaps on the furniture, and sneaks food out of trashcans. My puppy has been picking up on some off the habits, he always watches her. In the end, does he look to his fellow dogs for guidance, or me? Please help, and thanks in advance.

It will rub off onto your new puppy.

You need to properly train D.W so she doesn't give your puppy those bad habbits.

It sounds like you've done such a great job with Jubilee that you should try your skills on the Min-pins! You & your cousins should be in agreement that as the humans in the household you are all responsible for ALL of the dogs behaviors and that all of you have an equal right to train, care for, and if necessary, correct/scold the "pack." You should definitely have a discussion with your cousins regarding this before the big day! People can be very sensitive if told they are not good owners so be careful how you say it! If your cousins choose not to establish themselves as the min-pins leaders that does not mean you do not have the right to do so! Take matters in to your own hands and start working on each dog individually and as a pack. They are never too old to learn! And yes, your puppy could pick up habits such as nuisance barking because dogs are pack animals and she is young so easily influenced by the other pack members behaviors. Try not to look at this as a negative situation though - you have the opportunity to make the min-pins happier and to teach your cousins to be better owners!

Oh Yea...we were going to get a puppy but decided that our Lab Bob had some stupid habits and its best NOT to get a puppy.

Well Bob died unexpected . We got another dog and now he has taken up the bad habits that the cats got from my dog...

    So, monkey see monkey do...

The puppy will do what you allow. If you allow the older dog into the trash, the pup will think it is OK too. Start training both your dogs.

You need to get D.W. trained, so it doesn rub off onto your pup, it will eventually.

They absolutely DO learn from each other. You need to take your dog (and yourself) to clicker training class to learn manners (not that you need to learn manners) and obedience. If you learn how to train one, you can transfer what you've learned and train the other one. You will have fun with them while doing this and you will all be happier.
