Which Marine Corps Basic Training is harder? San Diego or Parris Island?
I heard a friend of mine say that MCRD San Diego is harder than Parris Island because there are no girls there and also because they train more recruits there. Is this true?

Yzark. Sorry, but your friend is a fool. Each MCRD has it's own challenges. The humps up Mount MotherF***er in San Diego are legendary. However, the swamps, sand-fleas and unbearable weather/heat on Parris Island are legendary as well.
I was in 3rd Battalion Mike Co. back in the day. My son graduated from 2nd Battalion MCRD Parris Island 2+ years ago. He told me something I had never heard, but will never forget (and it made me quite proud). He said "1st Bn. makes gentleman, 2nd Bn. makes Marines and 3rd Bn. makes MACHINES!" lol
3rd was pretty legendary because we were furthest from any of the officer barracks and were closest to the "swamp". Drill Instructors LOVED to PT us to death because they could get away with it.
When you think Marine Corps boot camp, you think Parris Island...am I right or wrong? Hope that helps.
EDIT:
Those that say they have the exact same training regimen or schedules. First, you are not 100% correct on that. Secondly, NFL players all go through the same training regimen. Spring training, 3 a days, weight room, film study, individual drills and spot coaching. That doesn't make all teams the same! Lions...Suck. They went through the same "MOTIONS". Colts...consistently solid team. Why? Discipline.

I am a Marine and went to MCRD San Diego. This question is kind of a pride issue for Marines that went to both and is usually debated by graduates of both over a few beers. I can tell you from personal experience that the hills that you hump in SD are tough as hell after not sleeping and eating for so long, but I can only imagine how much it would suck having to deal with the sand fleas that never leave you alone and the incredible humidity that I have been told of many times from island recruits. Bottom line is that both places will take you from a "disgusting civilian" to and outstanding Marine. Truth is you dont really have a choice where you go, it all depends on where you are recruited out of and you will probably always argue that whichever you went to was the "toughest."

Well, considering you either go to MCRD or P.I. you really don't know what's going on on the other recruit depot. If you're a DI then of course you'd say your base is more difficult, but they are designed to have the same basic training and infcorporate the same basic skills.

Parris Island does train females, but you will never see them. Genders are split up on the island and the training schedule has nothing to do with the fact that females are there.
Parris Island does have some nasty weather you must take into account. Crazy hot summer days, and freezing nights, humid and coastal rains/storms. SAND FLEAS too!! Annoying little pests that are known to get recruits in trouble for swatting at them when you're not supposed to be moving at all haha.
I did my training on the Island and would imagine that the training is the same, but the geographical location may make difference.
I would say Parris Island

From what I've heard Paris Island have sand fleas that will annoy you to death and get you in trouble at times with the DI. And in SD there are many hills that you'll have to hump including the dreaded Reaper during the Crucible

Neither one is harder. Both places do the EXACT SAME training that is put out by the USMC headquarters. Neither place can differentiate from the training schedule.
The only difference is that PI has sand fleas and that SD has many hills during its field training.
Other then that they are equal and both produce one thing, a US Marine.
Do not by into the non sense that one is harder then the other or that this battalion is harder then that battalion. How can one battalion be any better then the next one when they both do the exact same training schedule? There is not a training schedule for 1st battalion or 2nd or 3rd, there is simply a USMC boot camp training schedule.

anyone who says one is harder then the other is a retard..
and just to let you know..the weather is only bad in the summer in PI..the hills in SD are year round..so think about that
they are both the same thing because they train off the same set schedule program..

no kafa, all marines do not go to basic in paris island. only all female recruits do . if you live east of the mississippi you go to paris lsland. if you live west of the mississippi you go to SD. either way they are both going to be the same. i only depends on your DIs
