It's Venus, but over the next couple nights look shortly after sunset to see Jupiter about a third as bright low and close to the horizon with another "star" nearby which is Mercury. Mercury actually will pass Jupiter.

Tomorrow the Moon will be closer to Venus.

The Moon is growing to be in Paris, France at present. the brilliant superstar to the right is Aldebaran. The truly brilliant superstar more beneficial good is the planet Jupiter, yet Capella is in route of the Moon. convinced, the Moon IS seen in Australia (southern hemisphere) at present, yet Jupiter is to the LEFT of the Moon.

Its the planet Venus. Believe it or not, Venus has been that bright in that part of the sky for over a month, and will be for another month.

And it appears there almost every year.

It was Venus. If it is dark enough where you are, you can see the disk of the 'dark' side of the moon reflected by earth light. I live in NE Kansas. You can't see any details of the Moon, but you can see the disk against the sky. It's pretty cool.
