Do you eat the body of Christ in communion?

I was reported to Yahoo answers and had my answer deleted. I had replied to a question regarding Jesus being the tree of the life from which we eat. My reply to the question was "what part of him do I have to eat". Funny that someone found that so obscene they felt they had to report it. Notice there were no dirty words. Anything obscene took place in the mind of the person reading, not in my post. :)

So, do Christians eat the body of Christ during communion or not? Is transubstantiation NOT a part of the Catholic belief system anymore? Is it obscene to speak of eating the body of Christ?

Would Yahoo Answers censor Jesus?

"Take, eat; this is my body." Matthew 26:26 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=47&ch...

Update:

BTW: I just think it's funny that I was reported. :)

I'm an atheist and ex-fundie Xian myself.

We take communion as often as practical - some even twice a day - because doing so provides spiritual strength so we can take on arduous spiritual battles or maintain our sanctification. We also do so in remembrance of Him - the bread or wafer representing His Word and the wine, His blood or spirit. This started with the wine and show bread on the ark - itself a representation of Jesus Christ. 'Transubstantiation' is another subject altogether where the literal Christ is called down from heaven to be crucified again and again and is part of white magic to say the least - it should not be part of a proper Christians communion practice. Yes, we do.

At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “Take this bread. It is my body.” Then he said, “Take this and drink. This is my blood. Do this in memory of me.”

Catholics believe this was the First Eucharist, that through a miracle the bread and wine actually became the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Catholics reenact the Last Supper during every Mass, where God, acting through the priest, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

This is a great sacrament of thanksgiving and unity of Catholics.

By the way, the Eastern Catholic, Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, the Lutheran and many Anglican Churches also believe in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. This is more than half of all Christians in the world.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 1322 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2chpt1a...

    With love in Christ.

I don't think most Catholics even know what transubstantiation is. I think for the most part the average catholic does not believe that they are eating the body of Christ and that they are eating a representation. Too think Martin Luther went to all the work just to have everyone agree with what he was doing anyway...

Christians do not eat the body of Christ. That's a Catholic ritual. I hear they even drink Jesus' blood. Christians don't believe the wine and bread turn into the actual components. The Catholics call their ritual transubstantiation.

The Catholic Church believes in transubstantiation. Therefore, Catholics believe they are literally eating the body and drinking the blood of Christ. Other Christian sects see the bread and wine as symbols.

Most Catholics don't even seem to realize that this is what their church claims.

Yes catholics eat the body of Christ during communion at mass. It is the way that catholics become united as being part of one mystical body of Christ. On the question of which part of Jesus you eat when you partake of the consecrated host, the answer is the whole body, because the risen body of Christ cannot be mutilated.

Yeah, Catholics believe it is the body of Christ. I think Protestants believe it represents Christ.

Yeah, that's another thing I don't like about christianity. I don't particularly like devouring human flesh, be it metaphorically or physically.

Do this in remembrance of me, Jesus said. We do it to remember that He gave His life for us. I can see why you were reported.
