Have a Saab 93 2003 with immobilizer problem?

We have immobilizer failure which we know how to rewire to disengage but the only problem is we can't find where it's located in the car. All diagrams show it under the drivers seat, under the carpet by the vent. We took the seat out and it's not there. Anyone have any ideas where it is located? Of course the dealership won't tell you because they want all your money to fix it.

I agree with Tashfeen Qayyum, you really do not want to try to do this. The simple answer is that the immobilizer is actually in three pieces and coordinated by a Saab computer - the MIU (Main Instrument Unit), the BCM (Body Control Module) and the PDM (Passenger Door Module) all give the same ID code. Any one of these parts can fail and all have to be checked to ensure the system works fine. In a nutshell, it is a mess for a home owner to tackle.

If you want the diagarm, see it at this link. Don't say I did not warn you - if you can figure this out and fix it, then you should open your own Saab shop. You are going to get down and dirty with the inner workings of a Saab's electronics plain and simple, and not having the right diagnostic tools make this impossible.

If you double click on the image that shows up on this link, it will give you a detailed diagram of all the components that make up the "immobilizer" which is an assortment of components including the one under the seat as you indicated.

Good luck, let me know by dropping me a line at email if you fix it - I would love to learn how you did it.

If you are looking to save money a 2003 9-3 is not the car for you. I love Saab, and own an '01 9-5 myself, but the 2003 9-3's are awful. Everything imaginable and more will go wrong with it, I promise. 2003 was the first model year for the newer generation 9-3 (the sport sedans). There are an incredible amount of bugs that were yet to be worked out of the design, and as a result the owners pay $$$. The car might be $2-3k cheaper up front but you will be kicking yourself down the road. Unless you can afford a 2005+ 9-3 I would stay away. If you find yourself more financially stable in the next few years check out the newer 9-3's (2005+) and 9-5's (2004+). I hear good things and am currently shopping for an '04 9-5 myself. Good luck!

I am currently having "Immobilizer Failure" coupled with "Gearbox Malfunction" readings. The car will crank but will not turn over.

Hi, don't mess with it. You need a new CIM and tech2 for reprogramming.
