How do you feel about 2 Kings 18:27?

Do you think Yahoo Answers will censor the bible if I quote the bit about eating one's own dung and drinking one's own piss?

I hope so. :)

2 Kings 18:27 (King James Version)

But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

Update:

Mr. Philby: love it! :)

If Christians ever actually read their bibles, perhaps they would be burning those instead of burning Harry Potter, etc.

Well, in Matthew 18:9 it says "and if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee."

In Malachi 2:3 We have, "Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces."

What kind of talk is this? lol People might get the wrong idea and run amok, wreaking havoc in their wake as a result.

If everyone took the Bible verbatim, we'd all be in a world of sh*t.

  • When the King James Version was written, the word 'piss' wasn't vulgar. Modern society has changed it to this. Concerning the grotesque wording, it was merely used to get the point across. If people are going to use this as an excuse to water down the perfect Word of God, than they need to get over it. This verse is also used here: Isaiah 36:12

It is a reference to siege warfare, in which people have no fresh water and drink urine, just to have something because they are starving. It is talking about a desperate situation in a military siege.

Fresh urine was used medicinally in ancient times. It was a battlefield wound dressing, to prevent infection, among other things. Fresh urine is antiseptic and contains no bacteria. It must be fresh.

One of the medicinal uses of urine is to cure athlete's foot fungus.

He was saying that if they come up against Jerusalem & seige the city, the Israelites will have nothing but their own excrement to exist on. He was not saying G-d told them to eat it.
