I get $3 an hour for sitting a 7-month-old and a 4-year-old and I think that's reasonable, depending on how many hours you actually sat. The child's behavior shouldn't be a factor, because that's your responsibility to keep him safe, happy, and entertained while you are in charge. If you do a very good job, you may receive a little more but don't expect it. I've always been happy babysitting my nieces whether it is paid or not; it's fun!
I wouldn't expect the $50 and whatnot everyone else is talking about... not everyone can afford that!

I recently go $40 for babysitting 8 kids for 3 hours....I usually get about 5 dollars for the first kid then add three for every kid after that. Most of the time I just take what they give me. If you're asked to babysit this kid again, don't be afraid to refuse, tell the parents you just don't think you and the child are a good fit, or tell them you've up-ed your hourly rates. These are especially good if you feel the child was too crazy for you to hand.

Always be upfront when you schedule a time to babysit someone. Set your rate and let the parent know - if they don't want to pay that, either negotiate or turn them down. That way, you always know what you're getting paid and it will never be a surprise/disappointment.
I'd say for a four year old for an entire day, $50 flat fee.

I'd say about $7 an hour, for just one kid.
