How do we know that the toys we are buying our children are safe?

Does Mattel, Fischer Price, Little tikes ever test these toys for lead before they are distributed to the American public?

The effected toys can be found online, google search it and you will get a list of all effected toys. If your toy is not on the list it should be okay.

We don't. If it isn't lead it is some other chemical they use in toys, I would rather my kid play with a pot and wooden spoon than some of the toys they have out.

Discovery Toys and Melissa and Doug test their toys.

They are tested but some still fall through the cracks. Lead paint can be dangerous especially for children 6 and younger. It can also be bad for adults. Toy safety guidelines are stricter and testing has increased, just make sure you pay attention to recalls.
