Why are people so easily offended these days?
Atheists can't stand to hear the word God. Religious fanatics are offended when you play the music you like out loud because somewhere in one of the songs there will be lyrics that anger them. You can't call a ball team the Redskins. blah blah blah etc etc etc Why can't people just go about their business and ignore what bothers them in other people. Is this all part of the dumbing-down of America? You must be offended by everything!! You must be pissed off at everything!! Mr. Rogers is out and Wrestling and Reality Shows are in for our children in this new millennium. No more of this being calm stuff anymore. America is making sure that our children grow up to deal with things in an angry aggressive way. The movie Idiocracy is a true story.

If you want an honest answer there it is: "We Feel Better When Others Feel Worse". We hate to recognize it because morals and religion tell us otherwise, but it's a fact. We are trying to disguise this in order to be socially acceptable but as our egoism grows, the harder it becomes.
As we continued to devise more and more ways of extracting pleasure from nature, this seemed endless, it always held out promises for us - In the next generation there will be greater wealth, we’ll all live like the king lives, we will be able to cross the seas and discover what else is in this world, we go into space and see what’s out there, we can achieve political and personal freedom, we can build machines to do our work for us and just enjoy ourselves – but it’s turned out to be quite the opposite. We’re not enjoying. We’ve come to a complete alienation from each other.

It was always the same. I avoid a lot more than I did years ago but life is much more peaceful when I can look at what I am going to send someone and think before I send or they can get deleted so they think twice. I stay home as much as possible and when I go out I am prepared to enjoy myself and take the high road if anything would seem to get sour. If you are getting crotchety you can do a lot to make yourself feel better. So drink water, make sure your blood sugar isn't low or just eat a healthy snack, exercise after you take a shower to cool off the get back in and be thankful if you do have a shower and water and a place to live. I am just thinking out loud and don't mean anyone specific needs to do this just thinking of what I do to keep the old crotcheting from going wild.

I'm an atheist and one of my better friends is leaving this year to become a priest. Said friend also doesn't care. Never heard of the Redskins.

You hit the nail on the head.
There is no such thing as trying to raise your child with morals anymore.
The media is out to make money, so they throw these little off color words and actions into a movie that they believe children love. It makes a sane person crazy.
Our country is going over board on the freedom of speech also, but the media jumps on anything they think will stir up feelings in people. We see too much violence and vulgarity on T.V. but there is nothing being done to curb what our children see and hear. Children go to school and repeat what they hear and see. They are so vulnerable.
I believe that is why they grow up to be angry, just like their parents who taught them.

People are very narrow minded these days and have to make a big deal of it to get attention. The only things that offend me are Barbies and Bratz dolls and slutty clothing, but I don't draw attention to it and start a riot over it. I wouldn't pitch a fit at a parent for allowing their child to play with Bratz dolls and Barbies.
