is it true that racism is still worse in certain states than others?

My friend and I have been discussing colleges and I was telling her about my choices. after a while she said that alot of them were "racist states", including my top choice, Iowa. I was wondering if that is true. I know racsim still exist but how can one particular state be racist? I was also wondering if Iowa was a "racist state" or if she was saying this to hopefully convince me to stay in state.

Iowa was 1st state to select Obama, giving him his start. Iowa U was the 1st to have both a Black Men's and Women's basketball head coach, at the same time. The first public U.S. university to grant a law degree to a woman (Mary B. Hickey Wilkinson, 1873), to grant a law degree to an African American (G. Alexander Clark, 1879), and to put an African American on a varsity athletic squad (Frank Kinney Holbrook, 1895) The first Big Ten institution to promote an African American to an administrative vice president’s position (Dr. Philip Hubbard, promoted in 1966)

i live in the south, and all though racism has improved with the younger generation greatly, i still have to deal with racism from whites as well as blacks from time to time.

another thing that i have noticed is that most parents around here are okay with white people and black people being friends, but once it comes to their white daughter dating a black guy, their ready to disown their daughter. it's sad, but with every generation we are getting one step closer to being more open minded people.

yes, i noticed that down souths, if people are raciest they will let know know, like a vibe they give up, but up north like wiscon/nd/iowa/mn, the racist cover it up with a smile

Every state has racists. There will always be racists everywhere you go, they are unavoidable.

There's racism everywhere. . . some places more than others and some people more than others. If you're thinking about going to a college you should get all the information you can about the college and the areas surrounding it and visit the campus if possible. Good Luck!

Yes, some states are more racist than others.

I've liven in Iowa my whole life, and never had a real problem with racism. The state IS very much so a "white state," but we are typically very accepting, and everybody I've met at college remarks how kind the people in the Midwest are. :)
