antibiotics for cats? bathing a cat with scabs?

Lately, my male cat has been getting into a lot of fights with another male cat around the neighborhood, and he constantly is getting scabs.

There is one in particular that was a little alarming to me, because it produced a really large bloody scab, so I was assuming that the cut must be pretty big.

I don't think that it is necessary to take him to the vet for, but i was curious if there was any antibiotic cream or something i could buy for him since he is constantly getting scratches.

Also, i was curious if it is safe for me to bath my cat when he has these scabs. he is an active outdoor cat, and i think that him being out in the dirt and the scabs have caused him to smell really bad, so i wanted to bath him.

With two cats of my own, I can honestly suggest that you buy a Feline First Aid Kit like I did from the Pet Wellbeing.com company: http://www.petwellbeing.com/cat-first-aid-p98.cfm

The Kit contains First Aid Spray, Heal-Care Ointment & Ouch Away:

Feline First Aid Spray has aloe vera and other healing herbs which have anti fungal, antibacterial and pain reduction properties.

The Heal-Care Ointment is for Cat Paw Problems such as bruised or wounded cat paws. It helps to speed healing, Conditions and protects paw pads, Soothes pain and contains a Base of olive oil and beeswax.

The Ouch Away Spray is an effective herbal extract formulation that soothes and softens irritated skin, fights infection and helps hair re-growth in affected areas.

For bathing my cats I also bought Neem Soap from the same place and use it becuase has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and acts as an insect repellant too.

It should be ok to bath him, if he will let you. You can also use a topical antibiotic, but he will probably lick it off.

I would take him to the vet because it is very possible the bad smell is because of an infection or abcess.

It is my feeling that cats are much healthier if kept inside where they can't get in fights with other cats.
