AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor QL60 1.9GHz [INFO]?
Okay so I'm thinking of buying a new laptop and I saw one with AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor QL60 1.9GHz. I don't know anything about computers. Is AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor QL60 any good? Is it x86 or x64? What is x86 and x64? How about 32bit and 64bit? Thanks!

That's a fine processor. If you are simply doing the basic browsing/media playback/word processing stuff, this will suit you plenty.
Going by the name, that processor is 32-bit. 64-bit Athlon processors would be called "Athlon 64", or in your case "Athlon 64 X2" for the dual core model.
Look here for the difference between 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64 or x64) systems: http://www.infopackets.com/news/hardware/2006/2006...
Again, if you're doing normal browsing/playback/typing stuff, you won't see any difference between 32- and 64-bit. This only comes into play when you're moving huge amounts of data, like video editing or audio mastering.
64-bit is still relatively new on the desktop/laptop scene, and the drivers for Windows 64-bit Edition are less than mature. You will run into problems. I would stick with Windows 32-bit for stability, even if you have a 64-bit processor. I would suggest you hold off on 64-bit Windows until Windows 7 is released; hopefully hardware vendors will write stable drivers by then.

lol its fine. uh well the way 32 bit and 64 bit works..from what i know is that it's the operating system and if you have 32 bit you can only utilize somewhere around 3.5 GB of RAM so if you plan on installing 4 and up of RAM then you should get 64. however, 64 bit can have compatibility issues with older devices..but since its a laptop u already got ur keyboard and touchpad etc so you should be fine for the most part..it's x86-64. dont worry about that part. it's been renamed amd64 and means that it can support both 64 and 32 bit OS

athlon x2 are good processors they are not always the fastest at playing games and such but they will give you decent speed and reliability.
x86(32bit) x64(64bit) do not know if it is 64bit or not
