can an expired NSW driver's licence be transferred to a Queensland licence?
A friend of mine is currently overseas for three months. His NSW driver's licence expires next week and we are in the middle of renewing it via the internet. However, when he returns to Australia at the end of the month he'll be living in Queensland. So I wonder if it would better/easier/cheaper to wait until he gets to Queensland to transfer his expired NSW licence into a Queensland one.
Yeah I am going to call the Dept of Transport but they are closed for Christmas/New Years, and I am impatient for an answer. :-q
Their website does not mention expired interstate licences specifically. I know an expired Queensland licence can be renewed no trouble as I have done it myself.
I rang the Queensland Department of Transport (RTA is in another country??) and I was told I have up five years after the NSW licence has expired to change it to a Queensland one. So yes - you CAN transfer an expired licence for a new one.

You cant transfer an expired licence for a new one. But if you are in the middle of renewing it then you should have no problems transferring it. You should give the RTA a call and find out what they say on the subject.
