Do you sponsor a child in a 3rd world countrty?

If not, you should consider it. Sponsorship for $35 per month can save a starving child and provide him/her with food, clothes, education and a place to live. I wish all people would make this their new years resolution. Think about it. www.childcareworldwide.org

We sponsored one child in Peru via Compassion International for a few years, but then for some weird reason God saw fit to bless my husband's company, so now we sponsor three children in different countries. My in-laws sponsor 9 or so (I forgot the number). That amount makes it really difficult to maintain correspondence with each one (I imagine), but the real assistance is not receiving mail!! :o) I wish more people would look into WorldVision or Compassion International (or the one you like) before assuming that it's not good enough.

I don't sponsor a child in a 3rd world country. For a couple of reasons. Here they are:

    - Over the past two months November and December many families with children went homeless in America.

    - There are many children in America who are sick, homeless, and/or with poor families.

My reason for not sponsoring children in other countries is that I live here in America. America is where I grew up and live and there are children who need our help. Yes I do feel bad for those children but i believe that I should give back to my country by helping them first.

Maybe in the future when I feel that America is taken care of maybe then I will help them. Who knows?

I currently do not sponsor a child in a 3rd world country. But I have started to donate back to various organizations which helped me when I was homeless. I now have a small organization of my own that donate to "food pantries" as well as to the "feet washing ministry" for the homeless. I tell you It feels good to be able to give back. One songwriter put it best "If I can help somebody as I travel along my way then my living will not be in vain".

Nope. But I donate to children's charities right here at home, and am also a Foster parent.

I might consider an overseas charity, if they were not backed by religion, and had proof of how much of my donation goes to the child.

No because I don't have the money to right now. I'd rather give the children money myself and see them eat with my own eyes. I don't trust those charities because they are not non profit. I only want to give money to non profit organisations.

Too bad the children don't receive anywhere close to that amount huh?
